Making of the Father of Shian
Father of Shian is an attempt to use the language of Shian but pushed further. The use of reflections in this piece are more internal than external.
Less for viewer interaction than it is for the piece to go through its own transformation as the light of day changes around it, then glowing into the night. The shadows projected are meant as an extension of the piece itself into its environment. I used this same device in Shelter and was interested in further exploring the idea.
In Shelter there is a shadow of the instillation painted as well as the shadows from the light source. With Father of Shian, the shadow is a mirrored stainless steel and the other shadows are from the sun, acting like a sundial.
As with Shian this was also for WinterFest. My aim/challenge again was how to respond to it being experienced in the day as well as the night.
