Navigating the space
While envisioning my upcoming show at Central Oregon Community College (COCC) later this year, I began by trying to respond to the gallery itself. The gallery is a shot gun style room. After the 2016 election I was feeling adrift and questioning how my country came to this decision.
My aim is to pack the gallery with these sentinels, to create a uncomfortable feeling. The sculptures themselves are on a base that will be unstable. These sculptures are both a stand in for our group think, uneasy and wobbly. They also play on the idea that the group can be a beacon/ buoy. Out of what seemed an all encompassing darkness, in time, decades maybe, there will be a path to better angles.
